Lionel Messi’s chances of renewal at Paris Saint-Germain are dissipating with each passing day. The attacker is strongly considering a return to Barcelona ahead of the new season, following a somewhat disappointing start to the year.
Recent reports suggest Messi’s father had been holding out for an increased salary due to the player’s success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But PSG insist the attacker should agree to the same terms he signed in 2021.
The player’s environment, though, has suggested that Messi’s decision will not be motivated by money. To that end, a report from Alfredo Martinez claims the Argentine has complained about PSG’s sporting project. He is unimpressed with the club’s lack of ambition.
PSG are aware of Messi’s discontent and in an attempt to woo the Argentine international, the French giants could target Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane ahead of the coming summer.
The English international has endured yet another poor season at Tottenham, with the North London giants in no position to compete for the top four places. There is also no sight of any trophies coming in the way of the striker, who had joined the club 19 years ago.
With his contract expiring in 2024, many believe Kane will leave Spurs in the coming summer, enabling PSG to snap him up.
However, whether or not that will be enough for Messi remains doubtful. The Argentine has been in regular contact with Xavi and some of the other Barcelona teammates lately. He already imagines himself playing alongside his old teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba next season.
With Barcelona soon expecting a response from La Liga over their feasibility plan, Messi’s return to Camp Nou could soon be in the offing.
