The first behind-the-scenes footage from The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has been released, teasing Henry Cavill as a WWII action hero.
Henry Cavill becomes a black ops World War II action hero in the first behind-the-scenes footage from The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, his upcoming collaboration with director Guy Ritchie. After previously working together on the 1960s-set spy thriller The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will feature Cavill and Ritchie chronicling the true story of the birth of modern black operations forces. The upcoming film is an adaptation of a book by author Damien Lewis, with filming having started earlier this year.
Now, Cavill has shared a new look at The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on Instagram, celebrating his filming wrap with a behind-the-scenes video showing off some of the action that is to come.
The new video, featured above, highlights Ritchie’s directing style and shows the collaboration between him and Cavill in full bloom. In his caption, Cavill celebrates Ritchie and his fellow cast members, including Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
What The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare Footage Reveals About The Movie
The book upon which the movie is based, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth To Modern Black Ops, already provides a strong indication of what’s to come in Ritchie’s adaptation, namely Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming establishing a new top-secret combat organization to defeat the Nazis. Cavill’s footage, however, provides a taste of the type of action that is to come.
From the video, it’s clear that Ritchie’s signature brand of action filmmaking will be present in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. As has previously been shown off in his movies like Snatch, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Gentlemen, Ritchie favors a specific kind of kinetic and sometimes darkly comedic action. The footage also, however, suggests that the upcoming World War II movie may borrow from the likes of Inglorious Basterds in terms of its tone, which looks to mix classic action-hero elements, spycraft, humor, and the serious events of World War II.
The footage also provides a taste of how Cavill’s black ops squad of soldiers in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will operate, with Cavill himself shown wearing elements of a Nazi officer’s uniform. Although there will clearly be a number of bombastic action sequences, it seems that using disguises and blending in with the German military forces will be at least one component of how the squad achieves its mission. Unfortunately, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t slated to release until some point in 2024, meaning it could still be a while before an official, full-length trailer is released.
