It turns out that there is some research suggesting that a couple has a slightly higher chance of ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠɪɴɢ a son or a daughter based on certain factors. Keep in mind that much of the scientific evidence presented here is slight, and some of it is hotly ᴅᴇʙᴀᴛᴇᴅ by experts. But it’s still fun to try to guess.

Signs you might be carrying a boy

You ate a ʜɪɢʜ-ᴄᴀʟᴏʀɪᴇ ᴅɪᴇᴛ at the time of ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇᴘᴛɪᴏɴ.

One study found that eating a ʜɪɢʜ-ᴄᴀʟᴏʀɪᴇ ᴅɪᴇᴛ at the time of ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇᴘᴛɪᴏɴ and eating regular breakfasts may slightly increase the chance that you’ll be having a boy.

You’re eating more during your pregnancy.

Is it a boy or a girl? Your ᴀᴘᴘᴇᴛɪᴛᴇ may offer a clue. One study tracked the diets of moms-to-be and found that women who were pregnant with boys ate about 10 percent more ᴄᴀʟᴏʀɪᴇs than those who were pregnant with girls.

Got food ᴀᴠᴇʀsɪᴏɴs – even to ones that were favorites? Researchers say that the more ᴅɪsɢᴜsᴛ toward foods a pregnant woman feels, the likelier it is that she’s pregnant with a boy.

You develop ɢᴇsᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴅɪᴀʙᴇᴛᴇs.

Some research has found that moms-to-be who are pregnant with sons are more likely to develop ɢᴇsᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴᴀʟ ᴅɪᴀʙᴇᴛᴇs, a pregnancy ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ characterized by higher-than-normal ɢʟᴜᴄᴏsᴇ ʟᴇᴠᴇʟs in the ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ, than expectant moms who are pregnant with daughters.

The more sᴛʀᴇssᴇᴅ out you were when you ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ, the more likely it is that you’ll have a girl, say researchers. That’s because girls may be less ᴠᴜʟɴᴇʀᴀʙʟᴇ to ᴜɴꜰᴀᴠᴏʀᴀʙʟᴇ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴs in the ᴡᴏᴍʙ than boys are.
