Chelsea trio Thiago Silva, Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante all trained with the first team ahead of their Champions League first leg quarter-final against Real Madrid this Wednesday.
Silva, 38, has not played for Chelsea since sustaining a knee ligament injury during their Premier League fixture away at Tottenham Hotspur in February.
News of the defender’s potential return will be a boost for interim head coach Frank Lampard, who signed Silva as a free agent in the summer of 2020.
Mount missed out on Chelsea’s defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday due to a recurrence of an abdomen injury.
The 24-year-old’s return to training is an unexpected surprise but he remains a doubt going into the Real fixture. He has not featured for Chelsea since February and was an unused substitute for their games against Aston Villa and Liverpool earlier this month.
Midfielder Kante also missed Chelsea’s loss to Wolves at the weekend, but only as a precaution ahead of the midweek trip to Madrid. The 32-year-old returned for the west London side in their home defeat to Villa following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury picked up against Spurs in August last year.
Chelsea will travel to the Santiago Bernabeu for the first leg, with the second leg taking place at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, April 18.
