Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes impressed during his side’s 2-0 victory against Everton and then cleaned out a child during a kick about at Old Trafford.
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes sent a child tumbling to the floor during a kick about at Old Trafford after his side beat Everton on Saturday. The versatile midfielder played a defensive role as a goal in each half from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial gave United three vital points to boost their top-four hopes.
A video posted on Instagram showed the Portuguese star attempting a trick while the young child ran towards him. The kid then ran into Fernandes’ leg before falling onto the floor sparking laughter from the person videoing them on the Old Trafford pitch.
The United vice-captain stopped what he was doing and picked up the child who ran back towards the ball to continue their kick about. The youngster had the last laugh and seemed content after nutmegging the Manchester United midfielder.
Portuguese star Fernandes signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with United after signing for reported £67.4million from Sporting CP in January 2020. The versatile midfielder has received recent plaudits from manager Erik ten Hag for his work in defensive midfield.
Casemiro served the final of his four-match suspensions against Everton on Saturday, while Christian Eriksen is returning to fitness having been absent through suspension and injury. Fernandes has shown his versatility this season playing on both wings, his favoured number 10 position and the deeper role which he played against the Toffees.
Ten Hag addressed fans concerns about Fernandes playing a holding midfield role ahead of the Everton match. The United boss said: “Bruno we know it [he can score goals]. He’s now playing in a little bit deeper role so he’s further away from the goal but we have goal-scoring players in our squad.
“We have to work on our scoring abilities but also we have to think about the transfer market, yes. He played there against Newcastle and against Fulham. We miss Casemiro, we miss Eriksen, so we have to find a balance in the middle and I think Bruno is doing a good job over there.”
Ten Hag now has a selection problem on his hands with Eriksen and Casemiro likely to feature in their Europa League quarter-final first leg match against Sevilla on Thursday night. After his impressive display against Everton, Fernandes will feel he deserves to keep his place in the United side.
