John Wick: Chapter 4 has become a box office bloodbath, with the highly anticipated fourth film romping it home and smashing records in the process.
The movie came out swinging, earning a massive USD$73.5 million in America alone in only three days.
That means the fourth film has officially broken the franchise record for the biggest opening weekend of the film series, Deadline reported.
2014’s John Wick made $14 million on its debut weekend, Chapter 2 kicked off with $30 million in 2017, and Chapter 3 – Parabellum took home a massive $56.8 million in 2019.
Globally, the fourth film raked in USD$64 million globally, which means the movie’s opening weekend earned a huge USD$137.5 million worldwide.
Oh, and it was the number one, most-watch movie release in every market that released the film around the world. It also landed at No. 1 in each of the 71 markets where it opened.
The biggest openings include the UK. with USD$6.7 million, Germany with USD$5.5 million, and Australia with $4.68 million.
Russia also took in some eye-watering figures, with the latest Keanu Reeves film shown in cinemas despite some new releases being paused from showings as the world turned its back on the Kremlin and their invasion of Ukraine.
And, as the possibility of the John Wick: Chapter 5 still hang in the balance, producer Erica Lee has revealed there are plans underway for another spin-off taking fans even deeper into the Wick world.
“There is another film that we’re developing that I think we’ll be announcing in the next, say, month or two,” she said in an interview with Collider,
“Then, I’m hopeful there’s a Ballerina 2, and John Wick 5, and lots of other things. But we’re developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and Wick universe is my utmost priority.”
John Wick: Chapter 4 is out now. Unless you live in Korea or the Middle East. It’ll come in April for you, with Japan trailing behind with a September release.
