But a dramatic switch led to the Spaniard returning to his homeland.
Lazio were were believed to have offered Silva – regarded by some as the greatest Premier League import – a luxury home, private plane rides and £50,000-a-week to tempt him to Italy.
But it was not enough – and Silva has been enjoying the sun in the luxury resort he owns on Amadores Beach in the Anfi del Mar region of Gran Canaria.
The midfield maestro is from just 7.5km down the road in Arguineguin.
Silva is set to join up with Sociedad in September so until then can enjoy all the comforts of his resort – which is where he was first pictured wearing his new side’s colours.
Private cabins with their own pools are spread all over the resort while sun loungers lie out next to the enormous communal pools and hot tubs with stunning views out over the ocean.
Silva was slammed by Lazio chief Igli Tare for his last-minute switch.
He said: “I learn about David Silva’s transfer to Real Sociedad. I have great respect for the player, but not for the man.”

With Silva having been due to give Lazio his final word last Monday, the Italians were still left waiting by the weekend.
And on Sunday they gave him an ultimatum… before his move to Sociedad was officially announced a day later.
Silva’s father, however, has defended his son’s conduct in the matter.
He told Radio Marca Donostia: “When Lazio were told about the deal with Real Sociedad, they didn’t react badly — in the end, nothing was certain.
“There were contacts with Lazio, but also with Real Sociedad and other teams, then my son made the decision to go to Sociedad.
“There was nothing closed, David was surprised by the reaction of the club. Everyone can decide what they want, Lazio talked to his agent, not David.
“So I don’t understand why they bring him up as a man, he didn’t have anything done with Lazio.”
Revealing why he picked Real Sociedad, Silva admitted his family played a major part in his decision.

He told the club’s website: “I want to send a message to all Real fans, I’m very happy to have signed for this great club and hopefully we can win titles and celebrate them together.
“I have had quite a few offers, but I decided to join La Real because it is a club that is doing things very well and the style of play suits my game.
“I already know San Sebastian from when I was at Eibar a long time ago, and it’s a beautiful and quiet area, my family has played a role in this decision.”
