Hagerty Gives Their Case For Why The New BMW M3 Wagon Might Be The One-Car Solution

While Henry Catchpole gives high praise to the new BMW M3 Touring for Hagerty, it, unfortunately, will not be coming to the U.S.

The BMW M3 generations are some of the most celebrated sports cars of all time. Every generation is unique with their own individual personalities. With this latest generation M3, BMW unveiled a wagon version known as the M3 Touring.

Henry Catchpole recently looked at the newest BMW M3 Competition XDrive Touring for Hagerty. With this new body style, the M3 wagon brings a lot more practicality than the normal M3 and the same potent turbo six-cylinder. Read on to see if the M3 Touring really can do it all.

The Advantages Of The BMW M3 Touring

The M3 Touring shares almost all the same parts with its sedan sibling. Most importantly, it still packs the same 503 horsepower turbo straight six-cylinder engine. The M3 Touring’s 3.6 frantic seconds to 60 is only 0.1 seconds slower than the comparable M3 sedan.

Catchpole focuses on two main strengths of the BMW M3 Touring: its practicality and its driving characteristics. In the video, one can see him running errands in the M3, easily fitting in his bike, moving boxes, and groceries.

Then, as the crowded shopping centers fade away, he unleashes the M3 on English backroads. On those very roads, Catchpole says that the M3 Touring feels very similar to an M4 competition he drove also with XDrive. This is high praise considering the M3 touring has two more doors and more weight from its larger body.

Catchpole makes the M3 Touring sound like the perfect car for everyday use, back road drives, and even track days. Sadly, BMW is not planning to sell the M3 Wagon in the United States. Much like the Audi RS4 Avant, it looks like the German company does not think it will sell well enough to justify bringing it across the Atlantic. With SUVs taking up such a huge market share in the U.S., the closest alternative to the BMW M3 Wagon for Americans is the X3 M SUV.

As he finishes up his track day, Catchpole keeps laying on the praise. He says it’s more playful than the Audi RS4 and feels lighter than many modern Mercedes-Benz performance cars. Also, he reminds the viewer of just how good the M3 wagon is at nearly all aspects of what people use cars for. Unfortunately for wagon enthusiasts in the U.S., the M3 Touring coming to America is just a pipe dream at this point.
