A quick-thinking father assisted in the birth of his daughter, who came in a rush just as the nurses were leaving the delivery room. And photographer Jennifer Mason was there to record the extraordinary event.
“Since this family had a history of premature deliveries, they understood they would likely deliver their child early,” Jennifer stated. “All of their previous children were born early, and so was this one! They were absolutely prepared for anything that might occur, but I’m not sure they anticipated this.”
Jennifer, who is also the co-founder of Birth Becomes You, reports that her client began experiencing painful contractions at about 34 weeks, and her mother’s intuition warned her that the baby was imminent.
“The parents traveled an hour to the hospital of their choosing, and immediately after exiting the vehicle, my client’s water broke. As soon as she informed me that her water had broken, I knew we would soon be parents. I arrived at the hospital just as they were settling into their room. As I arrived, things were a little disorderly.
“Since the medical personnel was busy, it took them some time to reach their room. The nurse left the room for a minute while the patients were being admitted and positioned on their beds, and I immediately dimmed the lights. I could tell that my client was experiencing strong contractions in complete silence. I recall thinking that this child would arrive soon, but I did not anticipate that it would arrive THIS quickly.
“A few seconds later, my client had a BIG contraction. I first mistook it for a large contraction and did not expect to hear what she stated. My client then said to her husband, “Catch the baby!” We glanced down and there was their daughter! Her husband and I assisted in removing her mesh panties, and her father caught and delivered his daughter to his wife.
“Their little child began weeping instantly; we all knew she was okay at once.” Even though she came premature, it was evident that baby was doing well, as she quickly turned pink.
Jennifer states that she was glad to have such a beautiful occasion. “Mother and father were ecstatic to meet their child. During the delivery, I attempted to assist my client while shooting photographs and calling the nurses station. When I said, “The baby is here,” the person on the other end was really confused.”
“A few seconds later, though, the room filled with nurses, OBs, the midwife, and pediatric staff! It was very chaotic, and in the photos, you can see the moment when the door opened and people came rushing in! Mum and dad were enjoying their moment though, and that was the most important part to me.”
The intense birth was followed by calm family snuggles, with the trio heading home just four days later.
