It seems Momoa might indeed be returning to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCEU
After months of uncertainty, it seems that Jason Momoa might be staying in place in the DCEU under new heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
In a recent video posted to his Instagram, the actor was in lively spirits after a meeting with Warner Bros. and DC executives, promising that he had “some really good news” to share soon. He then continued to profusely thank Gunn and Safran as well as Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav for whatever transpired.
“Great news with Warner Brothers,” Momoa said in the video. “Amazing! Wish I could tell you, but here it is! Peter, I love you. James, I love you… To the future, to the future.”
Momoa’s role in Gunn and Safran’s DCEU has been in question ever since the new heads took over the studio. As DC looks toward a new future, Gunn and Safran have already made significant moves to alter their course. From scrapping Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 as well as Man of Steel 2 to outing Henry Cavill as Superman, the outlook of the beloved superhero IP seemed entirely up in the air.
Momoa himself was at the heart of these changes, as people began to speculate whether or not he will return as Aquaman. A few rumors have seemed to point towards Momoa putting down the trident and instead taking on the role of Lobo, a merciless bounty hunter in the DC Comics. Momoa is currently set to star in 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, but his role at DC is unknown after that. Previously, the star told ET Canada that he’s excited about the future of DC under Gunn and Safran.
“I think with Peter Safran and Mr. Gunn at the helm now at DC, I’m very excited about that,” Momoa said. “There’s a lot of cool things gonna be coming up. And one of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch, so, stay tuned.”
While we still don’t know if Momoa will be back as the King of the Sea, his excitement is a promising sign towards a return to DC.
