A brave pet dog lost its life after fending off a poisonous snake in an attempt to save its owner’s infant child from a fatal bite.
Two black and white dogs can be seen pounce on the cobra in Kidapawan City, the Philippines, according to security cameras mounted outside the home.
The two-year-old white dachshund named Moxie immediately began barking at the lizard when it first entered the front garden through the gate.
After that, Miley, the black dachshund, approached and snatched the monacled cobra in its jaws.
The two brave dogs are seen in the video fighting the snake one at a time, biting its tail and mauling its head.
The cobra was killed after the two-minute battle, but not before it bit Miley severely.
The four-year-old dachshund passed away shortly after the incident from her wounds, but Moxie was left blinded by the cobra’s venom.
The incident happened last Friday while Skye, the dachshund owner’s one-year-old daughter, slept inside the home.
Skye’s father, Jaime Selim, asserted that he and his wife, Pauie, learned of the incident after returning home.
My wife and I were away for work, Jaime said. Our assistance briefed us on what had happened and checked the cams when we arrived.
We were amazed, but we were also very proud of the dogs. I’m so grateful to my dogs for keeping my infant Skye safe. We will miss them terribly.
They hurried to a nearby veterinary clinic to treat Moxie. She miraculously lived, but the injuries caused her to lose her vision.
