TheSketchMonkey uses the recently leaked patents of the popular Japanese pickup truck to show what a new Tacoma could look like.
Toyota makes some of the toughest vehicles out there whether on the road or off-road. Legendary vehicles such as the 4Runner and the new performance GR Land Cruiser have helped build the brand’s reputation. The Tacoma, a small pickup truck, from the Japanese brand is practically synonymous with toughness and reliability.
The direction for the Tacoma is not clear yet, but Toyota released an EV concept and the design patents of the new model leaked on the Tacoma4G forums not long ago.
Inspired by these leaks of the next generation of the Tacoma, YouTuber, TheSketchMonkey, made a custom design of what the new 2024 Toyota Tacoma could look like. His new render looks like the natural fit for Toyota’s next small pickup. Read on to learn more about what Toyota’s next Tacoma could look like.
The Winning Design Of Tacomas Old And New
The video starts out highlighting the sales success of the Toyota Tacoma. Even though the current design first came out in 2016, the numbers for the small pickup do not seem to be slowing down. SketchMonkey also speculates on the aforementioned leaks and how they look similar to the EV concept and the full-sized Toyota Tundra pickup.
The tail lights and the square wheel wells are like the Tundra and make the Tacoma feel tied in with the rest of the brand. In the render, this look prevails, and the artist makes minor adjustments to one of the leaked images. Mainly, SketchMonkley puts on new TRD-esque wheels and tires as well as a blacked-out grille and a bright green paint job.
A Rugged Powertrain For The New TacomaYouTube TheSketchMonkey
While the new Tacoma’s price is anyone’s guess until an official confirmation, guessing its upcoming powertrain might be easier. The new Toyota is likely to feature some sort of hybrid drive. It could borrow from Toyota’s luxury brand, Lexus, and use the powertrain found in the RX 500h which produces 360 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The on-demand electric torque plus the added power of a 2.4 liter- turbocharged inline-four should help the small Toyota pickup make it up challenging climbs.
For a higher trim that brings even more power, the Tacoma could borrow from the GR Land Cruiser. With the Lexus electric motors from before and the twin-turbo V6 out of the Land Cruiser, the top-range GR or TRD trim of the new Tacoma could have around 500 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. Those are nearly supercar numbers, from a small Toyota pickup. A 2024 Toyota Tacoma like this could make domestic automakers sweat.
