This Is How Much It Costs To Finance And Maintain A Bugatti Chiron

According to the YouTube channel Vehicle Virgins, the monthly cost to get into a Bugatti Chiron supercar is more than most people’s yearly salary.

Being a gearhead can come with certain drawbacks if you decide to take the plunge into sports car or supercar ownership, as there is a raft of costs that come with enjoying an enthusiast vehicle. Just like any other car, a sports car comes with fuel, maintenance, insurance, depreciation, and repair costs, but many times the costs are just higher than an economical car or workhorse.

Updated March 2023: The Chiron is still the most potent Bugatti model yet, and it’s spawned several variants since it was first unveiled to the world in 2016. If you are a Bugatti enthusiast, you’ll be glad to know that we’ve updated this article to reflect the MSRP of the Chiron across a wide variety of variants and a few one-offs.

We all know that a Porsche will not be as cheap to run as a Toyota Corolla, but let’s scale up the math and go crazy with the idea, thanks to the YouTube channel Vehicle Virgins and a Bugatti Chiron.

An Amazing Supercar And Sports Car Dealership Full Of Awesome Stock

At the start of the video, the presenter informs us that he will be checking out a new supercar dealership that gets run by a friend of a friend – proving that making connections in the car world can open doors.

Once inside, a camera pan confirms that this place – The Pupil Of Fate – not only has an unconventional and quirky name, but it is also crammed full of exotic cars. However, there is room for a YouTuber to move around at least and more than enough space for a selfie stick or two as we pass by some modern icons.

Of note are a classic Ferrari, a 600-hp Jaguar XF, and a $1 million Aston Martin sedan called a Lagonda Taraf. Almost all the cars here are either rare, exotic, or special editions. One extremely rare model is the Aston Martin One-77 ‘Q’ edition, which is 1 of 7 in existence. This is an upgrade over the ‘standard’ One-77s, of which only 77 got made.

How Much Does It Cost To Rent And Run A Bugatti Chiron?Bugatti-Chiron_Pur_Sport-RearBugatti

You will need to watch the video for closeups and interior views of the cars, including a cool short segment where we get treated to a brief McLaren Speedtail cockpit experience. The highlight of the video is, of course, to go and see a Bugatti Chiron and talk about its average running costs.

Launching into an example considering average costs from McLaren and other sources, the calculation gets based on an average-US used price of $3.8 million for a Bugatti Chiron hypercar. With a 10% sales tax for California, that would mean a $380,000 total sales tax, just for starters, for a total purchase price of $4.18 million.

A 20% down payment might mean $836,000 and a 5% interest rate over 60 months would equate to around $63,000 a month. Adding in insurance and maintenance means an all-in rough monthly average of more than $77,000 a month, which is more than the average yearly salary in America. Not bad though if you’re a lottery winner, YouTuber, or hedge fund manager.

To rent and run a Bugatti Chiron isn’t child’s play as seen from the breakdown above, but what if you want to take the plunge and own the entire car instead? Surely, a tall order. A breathtaking automotive accomplishment, the Bugatti Chiron’s iconic-performance oriented structure and innovative technology make it such a unique proposition in the car world. Succeeding the Veyron, the Chiron is the most powerful and exclusive Bugatti ever and as such, it expectedly costs more than an arm and a leg.

Notably, the base Chiron cost about $2,600,00 upon its release in 2016, but that price has risen significantly to as much as $2,900,000 by today’s calculation. Other Chiron models include the Chiron Sport, starting at $3,300,000, the Chiron Pur Sport which starts at $3,600,000, and the Chiron Super Sport with a starting price of $3,900,000 for the 2022 model. Of course, there are still several more Chiron variants, all more expensive than the base model, and these also include a few one-offs.

One of those one-offs is the Bugatti Chiron Hermès Edition. Specially built for famous YouTuber and car collector Manny Khoshbin, the one-off Chiron is finished with custom Hermès accessories, including the paint. A passionate Bugatti enthusiast, Khoshbin was to name his son ‘Ettore’ but his wife rebelled against it.

The unique Chiron features the famous Hermès ‘Craie’ color scheme all through, making for one exterior color on the Bugatti, rather than two found on the majority of others. Another unique feature chosen by Khoshbin is the ‘Sky View’ glass roof, right above the driver and passenger seat. As expected, the interior is almost exclusively Hermès, with most of the materials used crafted by Hermès. In all, it took three years to build the Hermès Edition Bugatti Chiron, and it cost $4 million.

Another Chiron variant that was specifically produced in celebration of the 110 years of Bugatti’s existence is the Chiron Sport 110 Ans Bugatti. Introduced in 2019, Bugatti based the model on the Chiron Sport, with only 20 units scheduled for production. Upon its release in 2019, the Chiron Sport 110 Ans Bugatti had an MSRP of $3.26 million.

The Chiron Sport 110 Ans Bugatti proudly displays its French heritage through its paint colors. The mirrors, the rear wing, and the fuel filler cap proudly adorn the colors of the three colors of the French flag. Furthermore, there are French flags on the back of the seats, the headrests, and on the steering wheel.

Another incredible Chiron-based Bugatti is the Chiron Sport Les Légendes du Ciel introduced in 2020 to celebrate legendary French pilots and race drivers such as Alberto Divo and Roland Garros among others. Upon its introduction in 2020, the Chiron Sport Les Légendes du Ciel’s starting price was over $3.4 million.

The Profilée Is The Fastest Accelerating ChironBlue 2022 Bugatti Chiron Profilee Driving Through ForestsBugatti

In December 2022, Bugatti unveiled one of the most exclusive and special Chiron variants yet, the Profilée. Based on the Chiron Pur Sport, the Profilée however has a different aerodynamic outline featuring a newly designed front splitter, bigger grille, wider air dams, with a new steering and suspension systems among others. These changes surely aren’t cosmetic, as they help the Profilée achieve a lightning-fast 0-62 mph time of 2.3 seconds to become the fastest accelerating Chiron model.

Production-wise, there’s more to the Chiron Profilée than meets the eye, all making it quite a truly special car indeed. Bugatti had an initial plan of producing 30 units of the Profilée, all within the 500 planned production units of the entire Chiron. However, as a reminder, the incredibly wealthy enthusiasts among us have spoken for all the 500 Chiron units, and this happened while the Profilée was still in pre-series production stage. As a result, the idea of producing 30 units of the Profilée got shelved, leading to the production of just one unit. As a one-off, Bugatti decided to auction the Profilée. Earlier this year, at the RM Sotheby’s auction held in Paris, the amazing car raked in a whopping $10.7 million, earning it the right to the title of the most expensive new car sold at an auction.

How Much Is A Used Bugatti Chiron?2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur SportBring a Trailer

In terms of affordability, it really doesn’t look too good for prospective Chiron owners in the used market. Unfortunately, like when they got shipped to their owners with zero mileage, Bugatti Chirons are still as expensive as ever, even in the used market.

In most cases, the vehicles have only appreciated in value. For the base model, some of the ‘cheapest’ used Bugatti Chirons are available for as much as $3.7 million, while some other well-kept examples are available for more than $4 million. Of course, it gets even more expensive with other more exclusive models, and good luck finding an owner who really wants to sell.
