Enzo Fernandez has admitted he hopes Chelsea can sign Joao Felix permanently in the summer, as he thinks he’s a “great player” and “gets on” with him which “helps on the field”.
Fernandez and Felix were two of the biggest names to walk through the door at Stamford Bridge in January. Indeed, the former cost the Blues a British record transfer fee of £107million and Felix cost around £10million just to be loaned.
The pair have both shown their class at moments so far in a Chelsea shirt, as well as a good bond with each other.
Felix’s only goal so far for the Blues was assisted by Fernandez. Indeed, the Argentine whipped a perfect ball into the striker, which he volleyed in to open the scoring in a 1-1 Premier League draw with West Ham United.
Chelsea will hope the pair can continue to be effective for the rest of the season. Indeed, that should pull them up the table from their current spot – 10th.
Fernandez hopes the pair can showcase their bond beyond this season. While Felix is set to go back to Atletico Madrid in the summer, the midfielder wants to line up alongside him permanently.
“When you get on with someone, it helps on the field,” he told The Guardian.
“He’s a great player, isn’t he? Let’s hope that Chelsea can do all they can to keep hold of him.”
Reports have suggested that’s something Graham Potter’s side are already keen on doing themselves. Indeed, they apparently want to offer Atletico a player-plus-cash deal, possibly including Mason Mount.
Keeping Fernandez happy will also be something that’s on Chelsea’s minds in their attempts to snare Felix. Having a top player playing alongside their potential superstar will be key to get the best out of him.
Indeed, Fernandez admits Felix has been a great help to him in England already.
“He called me when I got here to ask if he could be any help,” he added.
With a few reasons why Felix should remain at the club, it’s likely Chelsea will be strong in their pursuit for him.
