Anthony Davis is one of the best big men in the league when he’s healthy, he’s capable of dominating on both ends of the floor. As of right now, Anthony Davis is averaging 26.0 PPG, 12.3 RPG, and 2.5 APG for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Despite his strong play this year, the Los Angeles Lakers could end up trading Anthony Davis in the future. NBA insider Chris Broussard has recently claimed that the Mavericks want to make a Kyrie Irving sign-and-trade for Anthony Davis this summer, noting that the Lakers could consider it if Anthony Davis does not play well for the rest of the season.
“LeBron James is sending a message to one Anthony Davis… AD is young, 29 years old. AD this summer is something that’s going to be interesting. Dallas’ objective this summer is Kyrie for AD sign-and-trade. If AD doesn’t ball in these last 23 games, the Lakers might look at something like that.”
This will definitely be an interesting situation to monitor heading into the offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers likely won’t have the cap space to sign Kyrie Irving if they give D’Angelo Russell a long-term deal, which they reportedly are already interested in doing. They could also end up exercising the team option on Malik Beasley’s contract, further reducing their cap space.
Though Anthony Davis has been an amazing player during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, it is not impossible for the team to move him based on durability concerns for a player like Kyrie Irving, that can give them a star to put next to LeBron James.
LeBron James’ Camp Is Reportedly Frustrated With Anthony Davis’ Durability
A previous report revealed that LeBron James’ camp is frustrated with Anthony Davis’ durability, noting that they “can’t depend” on the big man. It also notably linked Davis to the Mavericks, like Broussard.
“LeBron and his camp have been frustrated by how many minutes he has to play,” Cowherd said on The Herd.
“They can’t depend on Anthony Davis. They are also mad that Darvin Ham (Lakers coach) is not keeping the pressure on Anthony Davis … I talked to an NBA source who I’ve known for a long tie, he said the Dallas Mavericks and Anthony Davis, keep your eye on it.”
Durability is definitely a problem for Anthony Davis, but when he’s healthy, he is an absolute game-changer. The question for the Lakers ahead of the summer will be whether Davis’ talent outweighs the high probability of him missing games.
Hopefully, we will see Anthony Davis show that he can stay on the court and dominate over this last stretch of the season. It would be amazing to see the Lakers back in the playoffs, and Anthony Davis is key to making that happen.
