Jason Statham’s Long-Delayed Spy Thriller Finally Gets Release Date

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie’s long-delayed spy thriller, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, finally receives an American release date.

Jason Statham’s long-delayed spy thriller, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, has finally received a U.S. release date. Directed by acclaimed British director Guy Ritchie, the film has faced a series of setbacks leading up to its American theatrical premiere. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was originally scheduled to be released on January 21, 2022 before being pushed to March of that year, and then eventually removed from the release schedule altogether due to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War out of a desire to adjust the film’s depiction of Ukrainian villains.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre has finally received a domestic release date, as announced by Lionsgate and Miramax.

The Statham-led action-comedy will now hit American theaters on March 3. The news came with a new Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre trailer, which can be seen up above.

What We Know About Operation Fortune

Statham stars as Orson Fortune, an undercover operative tasked on a high-stakes mission with capable partners Sarah Fidel (Aubrey Plaza), J.J. Davies (Bugzy Malone), and Nathan Jasmine (Carey Elwes). When billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant) attempts to sell mysterious new weapon technology, the team must enlist the help of Hollywood movie star Danny Francesco (Josh Hartnett) to get the job done. With the success of the mission left in the hands of a bumbling actor, the rag-tag team of spies must improvise in order to save the world.

Previously titled Five Eyes, a reference to the international intelligence alliance between five countries, the film’s title was changed to its current one in late 2021. Ritchie appears to be right at home with Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre‘s high-stakes, playfully convoluted plot, and eccentric, witty characters. Rounding out the cast are The Outsider‘s Max Beesley and Ritchie-regular Eddie Marsan, who starred in the director’s Sherlock Holmes films, The Gentleman, and Wrath of Man.

Jason Statham's Long-Delayed Spy Film Finally On The Way?

Released internationally last month, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre received mixed reactions from critics, garnering a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although reviewers agree the action movie may not reach the heights of Ritchie’s most acclaimed films, its quick pace filled with fast-talking characters treat audiences with a fun thrill ride. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre debuts Stateside in just a few weeks.
