A woman found dead in a duffle bag in New York on Saturday appeared to have been stabbed dozens of times.
Orsolya Gaal, 51, was found after police received a 911 call about a bloody bag in Queens, New York, the New York Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY. She was found “unconscious and unresponsive” inside the bag, and emergency personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
Gaal had been stabbed 58 times, NBC New York reported.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to USA TODAY that Gaal’s death has been deemed a homicide, and the cause of death was “sharp force injuries of the neck.”
No arrests have been made in connection with Gaal’s death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police said a trail of blood led officials to Gaal’s home about a half-mile from where her body was found, according to multiple reports.
Gaal’s husband and 17-year-old son were in Oregon over the weekend, CBS News in New York reported. Police took Gaal’s 13-year-old son in for questioning on Saturday, but he has been released.
