Chris Sutton talks about Mohamed Salah and his dip in form for Liverpool
Liverpool FC’s highest goalscorer this season, Mohamed Salah, is yet to score a goal or assist across all competitions since Boxing Day. That was when the season resumed after the World Cup break, and after scoring against Aston Villa, the Egyptian is yet to contribute in terms of goal output.
Salah’s form and Liverpool’s form, ever since his time at the club are always proportional. Liverpool are yet to win a league game in 2023, and Mo is yet to score in a game in 2023. The Reds’ only win in the new year came against Wolves, in the FA Cup.
Former Chelsea player Chris Sutton also echoed the thought and wrote about the same in his piece for the Daily Mail as well. It is indeed extremely noticeable that the Reds do not seem half the team they are without their talisman in Salah getting his goals.

Here is what Sutton wrote:
“What has happened to Mohamed Salah? Once a Fantasy Football banker, he has not scored or assisted a goal in the Premier League since Boxing Day. He embodies Liverpool’s confidence crisis.”
Salah is not firing
As the club’s star player and one of the most talented forwards in the world, expectations are high for the Egyptian king. However, his lack of goals in the second half of the league so far this season has placed added pressure on the rest of the team to step up and fill the void.
Despite this, it’s important to remember that the 31-year-old has been a key figure in Liverpool’s success over the past few seasons, and his contribution to the club cannot be underestimated. With his pace, skill and goal-scoring ability, he has played a vital role in helping Liverpool win whatever we have in the last few seasons.

Hopefully, it’s only a matter of time before the Egyptian rediscovers his scoring touch and begins to fire on all cylinders again. The Liverpool faithful would hope that this will happen sooner rather than later, as the club looks to turn its fortunes around in the league this season.
The importance of Salah to Liverpool cannot be overstated, and if he can recapture his form, there’s no doubt that he’ll be instrumental in helping the Reds to climb up the league table. But we can’t keep defending him due to his past laurels.
