Paris Saint Germain manager, Christophe Galtier has revealed that Lionel Messi is exempt from certain tasks on the pitch because he’s just that good.
Watching Messi play football is a fascinating experience, not just because of the magical moments he produces on the ball but his lackadaisical approach off it.
The Argentine forward topped the charts at the World Cup for the ‘most minutes walked’ by a country mile. His superior ability on the ball gives him the freedom to not press or run off it.
In order for this to work on a functional side, he must be surrounded by hard-working players who make up for what he doesn’t do.
Galtier recently confirmed that PSG is fine with this.
“I ask the team to play for Leo and work for him,” Galtier said in his press conference, as per Get French Football News.
“He must be exempted from certain tasks. His partners must redouble their efforts to recover and create movement so that he find passes, which are so rare in today’s football, in such small spaces.”
