Bennett Michael Curtis is a smiling and healthy baby who caused his parents a stir after he was born in his father’s car on the way to the hospital.
His mother Katy’s contractions were about 10 minutes apart, so the couple thought she had plenty of time to get to the maternity ward.
Along the way, however, Katy’s water ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ and her husband had to pull over on the side of the road. He immediately called an ambulance, but got the sʜᴏᴄᴋ of his life when he saw his son’s head appear!
Katy was sitting in the passenger seat. As Stefan went around to her side, he found a surprise. “There was a head sticking out,” he said, “and as I got around to talk to 911, the baby was coming out.” Katy leaned forward to pull the baby out. “She pretty much finished the job,’’ her husband said.
The parents tried to keep their cool throughout the birth, but were shaken when it took about 30 seconds for their son to cry. “I was talking on the phone and I see the baby’s head coming out. It all happened so fast I couldn’t believe it!” Stefan Curtis said, adding that within 10 minutes the police and two ambulances had arrived to help them.
Bennett Michael was 7 pounds 7 ounces and 21 inches long, delivered in a 2019 Lincoln MKC. Bennett was two days early and was born within 90 seconds after her water ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ. Mother and son were taken to the nearest maternity hospital and discharged the next day, as both were in very good health.
The couple say looking back, it’s hard to comprehend what happened. But they say they are grateful for the emergency responders, and that there were no ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs. “That’s a miracle in itself,’’ Stefan said.
