Manchester United’s favourite is Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports emanating from Italy.
That’s according to a report from Italian media outlet Il Mattino who claim the 24-year-old is being courted by six Premier League clubs, including United.
Erik ten Hag wants to bring a world-class striker to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
The Dutchman signed Wout Weghorst earlier this week, but the giant forward is a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
And it seems as though the United boss has a plan in place for the summer transfer window.
Victor Osimhen is ‘Manchester United’s favourite’
Il Mattino reckon that United are willing to pay an incredible €150 million (£132m for the Nigeria international. That would smash the Red Devils’ current transfer record by a whopping £40m!
Man United paid £92m for Paul Pogba in 2016 (Guardian), but the Osimhen deal would blow that out of the water.
That’s an awful lot of money for United to splash out on one player, but Osimhen is the kind of striker who would take Ten Hag’s side to a new level.
The Nigerian is physically strong, possesses blistering pace and is a very good finisher – 12 goals in 14 Serie A games this season is evidence of that.
If United brought the hitman to Old Trafford, they would have one of the deadliest attacks in world football.
Victor Osimhen will not be leaving Napoli in January unless something dramatic happens.
However, United will likely go all out to bring him to the Premier League from Serie A in the summer.
Man United face competition from Chelsea for David de Gea’s successor
Both clubs are in the market for a new goalkeeper.
Manchester United are interested in signing David Raya from Brentford, according to reports, but face competition from Chelsea for the Spanish goalkeeper. Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in signing Raya this summer.
The Red Devils are searching to sign a new goalkeeper to act as competition for David de Gea, and potentially be the goalkeeper’s long-term successor.
De Gea’s current deal with Man United will expire in the summer and the Spanish international is in talks over a new deal. The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper earns a reported €400,000 a week on his current contract but is expected to sign a new deal on reduced terms.
De Gea joined Man United from Atletico in 2011 and has made over 500 appearances for the Red Devils. He was named the club’s player of the year four times.
De Gea, 32, remains an excellent shot-stopper but there have been questions about his distribution and suitability for Erik ten Hag’s system. As such, Man United are exploring their options for the goalkeeper position.
De Gea could face competition from Raya if he remains at Old Trafford, with the Brentford ‘keeper on United’s radar, according to The Telegraph.
Raya has 18 months left on his contract with The Bees and is not expected to sign a new contract. The club may need to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old is excellent at playing out from the back and has caught the eye of several clubs.
Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the Spanish goalkeeper, who has made 45 appearances in the Premier League for Brentford.
The Blues have gone on a transfer spending spree since Todd Boehly bought the club last summer. They are said to be in the market for an upgrade on Eduard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Tottenham are also searching for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris and are understood to be interested in signing Raya.
The Brentford goalkeeper was included in Spain’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar and has won two caps for the country.
